A rose velvet gown worn to the masquerade ball in Marie Antoinette (MGM, 1938). The gown comprises an overdress embellished with quilted silk trimming, ribbon rosettes, silver lamé braid work, silver bullion fringes and a full pannier skirt, a petal pink silk organdy dickey that has been professionally recreated onto the original bodice of the underdress, and a velvet tricorn hat with ostrich plumes, silver lamé braid work and silver bullion fringes. Professional conservation has been performed by Bill Hargate Studios to bring the costume back to original splendor. Accompanied by additional pieces original to the costume and a copy of the film. Additionally, featured in the American Movie Classics documentary The Hollywood Fashion Machine : Faded Sequins , Tattered Dreams , Saving Hollywood's Classic Costumes (AMC, 2000). Previously exhibited: The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, "Hollywood 2000: The Eighth Annual Art of Motion Picture Costume Design Exhibit," February through April 2000, and The Sharon Landa Gallery in Hollywood, California, 1971.
