A steel blue silk brocade dressing gown with gold lamé floral springs worn by Norma Shearer as the title character in her Academy Award nominated role in Marie Antoinette (MGM, 1938). The gown is trimmed with chocolate sable. Shearer wears the gown when she is reunited with Count Axel de Fersen, played by Tyrone Power. Costume design by Adrian. Professional conservation has been performed by Bill Hargate Studios to bring the costume back to original splendor. Accompanied by a petal pink corset and petticoat recreated based on the original film pieces, a gold tone cross necklace for display purposes, and a copy of the film. Additionally, featured in the American Movie Classics documentary The Hollywood Fashion Machine : Faded Sequins , Tattered Dreams , Saving Hollywood's Classic Costumes (AMC, 2000). Previously exhibited: The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, "Hollywood 2000: The Eighth Annual Art of Motion Picture Costume Design Exhibit," February through April 2000, and The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences exhibition space in Beverly Hills, California.
