A copy of A Magician Among the Spirits by Harry Houdini (New York: Harper & Brothers, 1924) contained in a protective clamshell box. The box is marked on the spine with the name of the book and “Eugene Harkewitz’s/ Compilation/ of Letters by/ Great Magicians.” Houdini has inscribed the book on the endpaper. A number of other letters are tipped into the book, including a typed letter from Houdini written to E. Harkewitz signed “Houdini” and dated October 7, 1925. Also present is a typed German translation of that letter; a typed letter with typed sign-off from Houdini written to Harkewitz regarding a story and giving Houdini’s private address; a typed letter to Mrs. Houdini from Harkewitz and additionally written on by Bernhard Benson. Benson additionally signed the book on the endpaper. Also tipped into the book is a six-page brochure advertisement for magician Chung Ling Soo affixed to the back endpaper. Accompanied by a laid-in letter from Soo dated October 8, 1906; Soo has additionally signed the letter "Robinson." The front endpaper has two drawings by Arthur Buckle pasted in and a copy of a reprinted article regarding Houdini's death. Additional letters pasted in before the index and following the index, written to Harkewitz dated from the 1920s, include Arthur Buckle, Anglo Lewis (Professor Hoffman), and Chevalier Ernest Thorn. 10 1/2 by 7 1/4 Categories: Harry Houdini
