A Hillerich & Bradsby Louisville Slugger model R161M Frank Robinson game used bat. After a review of Robinson's Professional Bat Ordering Record (PBOR) at Hillerich & Bradsby Co., model number R161M was ordered by Robinson on August 13, 1971, when he was playing for the Baltimore Orioles and was for only one order. The ash wooden bat is uncracked and displays several ball marks and ball stitch impressions as well as orange and green bat rack marks. Stamped into the knob are model number R161M along with the bat weight of "35" with Robinson's number"20" written on the knob in black marker. Manufacturing lead time and delivery time in 1971 from the Hillerich & Bradsby Co. was three to four weeks (as confirmed by Hillerich & Bradsby Co.), placing Robinson's receipt of this bat in the middle of September 1971. With Walen Monica, who obtained the bat directly from Robinson in 1971, only attending the 1971 All-Star game and 1971 World Series, and with this bat not having been manufactured until after the 1971 All-Star game, it is believed that Monica obtained this bat from Robinson at the 1971 World Series and that it was used by Robinson in game play at the 1971 World Series. The bat is stamped "Genuine/ Frank Robinson/ Louisville Slugger" on the head of the barrel. Accompanied by a color image of the cover of the October 18, 1971 issue of Sports Illustrated featuring Frank Robinson at the plate during the 1971 World Series. The image is signed "Frank Robinson" in blue Read more…
