A seat back from the original Yankee Stadium in The Bronx, New York. The blue plastic seat back is numbered "9." Notable Yankees players to wear uniform number 9 include Joe DiMaggio (1936), Charlie Keller, Hank Bauer and Greg Nettles. However, the most notable player to have worn uniform number 9 for the Yankees is Roger Maris. Maris was a seven-time All-Star, three-time World Series Champion, and was named the American League's Most Valuable Player in 1960 and 1961. Maris' most well known acomlishment came when he hit 61 home runs in the 1961 Major League Baseball season. With his 61 home runs, Maris would break Babe Ruth's record of 60 home runs in a single season. Maris' record would stand until 1998 when it was broken by both Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa in the same season. Maris had his uniform number 9 retired by the Yankees in 1984. Affixed to the seat back is a plaque that reads "Yankee Stadium/ April 18, 1923 - September 21, 2008." The seat back was used in, and removed from, the original Yankee Stadium in 2008. The seat back is manufactured by American Seating of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Affixed to the seat back is a Major League Baseball numbered hologram.
