A vintage blue ringer T-shirt signed in black marker by Andy Warhol, featuring a portrait of Andy with Seattle, Washington scenery in the background. Artist Jim Cherry designed the T-shirt to commemorate the Andy Warhol exhibition at the Seattle Contemporary Art Museum in 1976. According to Cherry, the colored ink on paper preliminary illustration, also included in this lot, was sent to Warhol for approval. Warhol was excited by the design and is said to have stated “It makes me look like boy wonder!” Cherry met Andy at the museum as he was arriving from the airport, at which time Warhol signed one of the shirts. The shirt was later featured on ABC’s 20/20 in relation to a report on the Warhol archives. Also included are a final ink on paper design for the shirt and a copy of the book Vintage T Shirts (Patrick and Marc Guetta, Taschen, NY, 2010), which features one of the Warhol shirts on page 275.
