A Stanley Mouse painting of his Mouse Studios logo, 1985. The logo shows a caricature portrait of Stanley Mouse as a mouse holding an oversized pencil and bearing a third eye on his chest and a dragon in the background. Acrylic on board, signed in lower right by Mouse. The artwork was framed by Mouse's friend and artistic collaborator, Alton Kelley. Accompanied by a signed copy of Mouse's book Freehand : The Art of Stanley Mouse (Berkeley: SLG Books, 1993), this image can be seen on page 80, along with a Mouse Studios business card with this logo. Mouse, whose father was an animator for Disney Studios, began his career in Detroit creating pinstripe designs for hot rods. After moving to London in the 1960s, then returning to the United States to create signage for the Woodstock festival, Mouse eventually settled in San Francisco, where he produced iconic Fillmore posters and album covers. The logo is an iconic centerpiece to his work and Mouse's contribution to art and the music scene in San Francisco.
