A group of four images by Rick Griffin relating to the Grateful Dead's concerts in Egypt in 1978. The concerts produced the live album Rocking the Cradle : Egypt 1978 . Three of the images are mixed media on tracing paper, one framed. The fourth is an artwork film overlay. The image is of excavators working on opening a tomb in front of the Sphinx. The tomb in some of the images has the lettering "Relix" for Relix magazine, the Deadhead publication for which Griffin produced these images. The magazine served as an important vehicle for the momentous concert series that few fans could attend. Both Griffin and the Grateful Dead are believed to have been influenced by "The Treasures of Tutankhamun" exhibition that was touring the country and appeared at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in 1978.
