Italian, 18th century. Pair of cabinets of rectangular form with polychrome body with paneled sides, front with hinged door with square panel with incurvate chamfered corners finely hand painted with figural scenes, opposite side of door also handle painted with ornate figural work, overall shaped skirt and supported on bracket feet. One cabinet depicting a resting figure in forest with small donkey at side with view of knights on horseback in expanse at back beside sea, hill with architecture in distance, verso with seated Julius Caesar with red and white robe with laurel crown pointed toward solder being restrained by men at sides during one of the leader's military campaigns; the other cabinet depicting three desperate kneeling figures looking toward upper left maid rolling landscape, verso with a standing Julius Caesar in tent addressing a foreign official during a military campaign. Overall approximate height 47", width 41.25", depth 16.5". Provenance: Foxglove Antiques, Atlanta, Georgia whereby acquired by a Private Collection in Atlanta, Georgia.
