A collection of sketches by Rick Griffin relating to promotional materials for the 1990 two-day concert Gathering of the Tribes produced by Ian Astbury of The Cult and Bill Graham. The first drawing is a roughed out mixed media on tracing paper sketch of hands linked in a circle surrounded by a necklace, feathers, and musical instruments with the lettering "A Gathering." Framed. The second is an ink on tracing paper drawing of a similar graphic. The third is a mixed media on tracing paper sketch of the lettering "A Gathering of the Tribes." The last item is a combination of both the graphic and lettering on a larger piece of tracing paper. This incarnation of The Gathering of the Tribes was conceived of by Astbury as a way to raise awareness about Native American issues. The diverse lineup included among others Soundgarden, Iggy Pop, The Charlatans UK, Indigo Girls, Ice T, The Cramps, Public Enemy, Queen Latifah, and Joan Baez.
