A collection of approximately 30 color transparencies dated October, 1975, featuring scouting shots taken around the base of Devil’s Tower in Wyoming, the site chosen for the alien landing in the Steven Spielberg sci-fi thriller Close Encounters of The Third Kind (Columbia Pictures, 1977). Several images portray Vilmos Zsigmond, whose work on the film won him the Academy Award for Best Cinematography. Also included is an album of approximately 40 color photographs taken during a production related house party, featuring shots of Terri Garr, Richard Dreyfuss, Steven Spielberg, and others; letters concerning the procurement of various props; a “Close Encounters" iron-on patch; a vintage T-shirt with “CE3K” across the breast; a vintage souvenir sweatshirt with an image of Devil’s Tower on the front; a hand-written letter to Abramson signed by Richard Zanuck, from March, 1978; and a typed letter on "Close Encounters" stationery to Phil Abramson, who was in Florida for the production of Jaws 2 , signed by Steven Spielberg thanking Phil for decorating his home and apologizing for a recent article in Andy Warhol's publication Interview .
