An Elvis Presley hymn book titled “Christian Hymns III. ” Bound in burgundy leather and stamped “Elvis” with gold tone lettering. The book was kept in Presley’s Graceland bedroom with his organ/piano for more than 11 years. Inscribed on the front endpaper, “Dear Elvis, Thank you for the joy & contentment you have afforded me and countless others in your singing and the encouragement you've given in such songs as 'How Great Thou Art' and 'Help Me.' May God bless you always with peace of mind. Sincerely, Jewel Williams PO Box 308, Jamestown, Tenn., 38556.” Name and address are partially obscured. The book was given to Nancy Rooks, Presley’s maid from 1967 to 1977 who remained a housekeeper at Graceland until 1991. A letter of authenticity from Rooks accompanies the book. In it she explains that she and Presley were singing “Take My Hand, Precious Lord” but didn’t know the lyrics to the third verse. Presley gave the book to Rooks so she would know the words the next time she came to sing with him.
