A collection of documents from the personal files of John Calley relating to the production of the film The Goodbye Girl (Warner Bros. , 1977). The film, with the working title "Bogart Slept Here," was originally to star Robert De Niro in the lead role, but De Niro was fired from the production early on, reportedly due to his inability to portray light humor after having just finished playing the role of a mentally unstable killer in Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver (Columbia, 1976). The collection contains approximately 20 vintage xerographed documents, including a seven-page "first revised" synopsis of the film marked "Confidential" and dated June 2, 1975; confirmation letters regarding the hiring of De Niro; and memos concerning production schedules and contractual details.
