$7,040
Jerry Garcia's custom tooled leather guitar strap. The strap reads "Black Jack," one of Garcia’s nicknames, with tooled floral images and lighter leather lacing trim along edges. The strap was originally a belt that was adapted for Garcia's use as a guitar strap. Garcia played on Tom Gogerty's album Excalibur (1972) where he played lead guitar on the song "Black Jack Jenny" which may have been the origin of the nickname. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Steve Parish, Garcia's guitar tech and Equipment Manager for the Grateful Dead from 1969 to 1995, who states that this was originally Garcia's personal belts prior to its conversion into a guitar strap.
