A 1952 Summer Olympic Games gold medal awarded to United States diver Pat McCormick. McCormick won the gold medal in women's platform and springboard diving at the 1952 Summer Olympics held in Helsinki, Finland. It is unknown for which of the two events this medal was specifically awarded. Made of gold plated Gilt silver, the medal features the traditional goddess of victory, holding a palm in her left hand and a winner’s crown in her right. The design for the medal had been used since the 1928 Games in Amsterdam, created by Florentine artist Giuseppe Cassioli (Italian, 1865-1942) and chosen after a competition organized by the International Olympic Committee. The front of the medal features the inscription "XV OLYMPIA HELSINKI 1952." The back of the medal features an Olympic champion carried in triumph by a crowd, with the Olympic stadium in the background. The medal is accompanied by McCormick's 1952 Summer Olympics diploma. Olympic diplomas are awarded to the top eight finishers in each event. The diploma reads "XV OLYMPIA/ Helsinki 1952/ Patricia McCormick/ I P./ Kerroshypyt." The diploma also features the auto-pen signatures of the president of the International Olympic Committee and the head of the organizing committee for the 1952 Summer Olympics. The diploma has been mounted to a mat for framing. Accompanied by certificates of authenticity from the Pat McCormick Educational Foundation and World Championship Collectibles. Diploma, 22 by 16 inches, overall PRO
