A 2004 Olympic torch used by United States four-time Olympic gold medal winner Pat McCormick during the opening ceremonies of the 2004 Summer Olympics held in Athens, Greece. McCormick carried the torch in the "Ring of Honor" at the opening ceremonies that were held on August 13, 2004, at Olympic Stadium in Maroussi, Greece, a suburb of Athens. McCormick won the gold medal in both women's platform and springboard diving at the 1952 and 1956 Summer Olympic Games. An olive tree served as the inspiration for the 2004 Olympic torch. The torch was designed based on an olive leaf's lines and its "harmonious" shape. The ergonomic design was meant to enhance the flame with its upward shape. Made of magnesium and olive tree wood, the torch features the Athens 2004 and Olympic Rings logos. Accompanied by certificates of authenticity from the Pat McCormick Educational Foundation and World Championship Collectibles.
