A large collection of rare photographs featuring test shots of Robert De Niro with Marsha Mason in preparation for his role as Elliot Garfield in The Goodbye Girl (Warner Bros. , 1977). De Niro was notoriously fired from the role early on in the production and replaced by Richard Dreyfuss, who went on to win the Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role. De Niro had just finished filming Martin Scorsese's dark thriller Taxi Driver (Columbia, 1976) and reportedly had difficulty transitioning into the lighthearted comedic character required for The Goodbye Girl . The collection comprises approximately 55 color prints with around 20 negatives (a few of which appear to have been taken by De Niro), approximately 93 color transparencies, three black and white contact sheets, and an assortment of original set memos and crew lists.
