An Elvis Presley stage worn IC Costume jacket with gold lame accented pockets, wide lapels and standing collar. The jacket has an IC Costume Co. label on interior, single-button closure, two complete gold tone buttons on the right sleeve and no buttons at left. Presley wore this jacket at the Las Vegas Hilton in 1972. At this point, Presley favored two-piece suits worn with matching capes accented in patterned or color linings and a variety of different colored shirts. Presley can be seen in photographs from this time in similar suits with different color accented pockets; other accent colors included red, black and aqua. On the night that Presley wore this jacket, a young doctor, Bill Chandler, sat in the audience with his wife. They were in town from Little Rock, Arkansas, and had seen Presley a number of times on previous visits. That particular night, toward the end of his performance, Presley detached his cape from his jacket and tossed the cape to the crowd. While Chandler watched two men tussle for the cape, he saw a white flash out of the corner of his eye. The next moment he was hit in the face with this jacket, which Presley also tossed out into the crowd. Behind Chandler, two women reached over to wrestle the jacket from his hands. He held tight, but one of the women did make off with the three buttons from the jacket’s left sleeve. The jacket has stayed in the family as a treasured heirloom. This is the first time it has been offered at auction. No size present.
