A signature costume worn by Paul Reubens as Pee-wee Herman during public appearances to promote his stage show, The Pee - wee Herman Show . The black and white glen plaid suit is a “Malibu Imperial” 1960s suit and includes a vintage red bow tie. Reubens wore the signature costume during numerous special appearances, including The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (Big Dog Productions, 1992-2014) on September 22, 2009, to promote his stage show that previewed in Los Angeles before moving to Broadway. Pee-wee Herman’s signature grey plaid look was originally established when Reubens borrowed a custom-made suit from Groundlings Theater director Gary Austin.
