Gibson L4 custom studio and stage played guitar, serial number 82377535, black finish, owned and used by David Bowie in the studio, on stage and while on tour with Tin Machine, accompanied by a Sound + Vision tour program showing Bowie playing this guitar, a signed letter of authenticity from Reeves Grables and guitar picks. The guitar can be seen in videos for the Tin Machine 1 album, in Music News reports and was used heavily in the studio for the recording of Tin Machine II. Tin Machine was formed in 1989, a return to the collaborative band setting for Bowie who had been a solo artist since the 1970s. The quartet was comprised of Bowie, Reeves Grables, and brothers Tony & Hunt Sales. By some accounts the group challenged Bowie to be more spontaneous, with fewer takes and less production put into the music making. Bowie was said to have taken inspiration from a favorite band, the Pixies, to contribute to the edgy rock sound of Tin Machine. Categories: David Bowie
