Leotard of chiffon and net with fitted fishnet overlay, rhinestone and sequin embellishments throughout, hook and eye closure at back, label reads, “20th Century Fox/ M. Monroe.” This is believed to be the costume designed by William Travilla and intended to be worn for Marilyn to sing “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” in "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" (20th Century Fox, 1953) but deemed inappropriate by the censors. Accompanied by a reprinted black and white photograph of Monroe in this costume. PROVENANCE Lot 109, “Property From the Estate of Marilyn Monroe,” Julien’s Auctions, Los Angeles, June 4, 2005.
