Black and white photograph of James Dean walking down the street in New York, 1954. Roy Schatt was the official photographer of The Actor’s Studio in New York. Lee Strasberg recognized his talent from photographs in Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue. He described James Dean when he first met him: He was a squinty schlump of a person all bent over. Then Dean suddenly got up and this ugly person became a dream, an Adonis who started to dance around the room. It was a transition I couldn't believe. James took photography lessons from Roy Schatt and they became close friends. Schatt is in the Museum of Modern Art’s permanent collection and has been exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. and the Chicago Art Institute. Signed by Roy Schatt in lower right hand corner in brown ink. Certificate of Authenticity from Elaine Schott of Roy Schatt Studios, New York, New York.
