Original, vintage blueprint titled “Fantasy Land Castle” and “North Elevation” that illustrates the iconic façade of the famous Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland. Labeled “Disneyland Inc.,” this blueprint was executed by “WED Enterprises, Inc.” Dated “2-12-55,” this architectural rendering details nearly every aspect of the Fantasyland-facing side of the castle from the wind vane atop Tower #11, the castle’s tallest tower, to the iron grills at the castle’s base. Five shields are illustrated above the castle’s outdoor lobby: Three small shields are drawn onto the central parapet balcony, and two larger shields are drawn over the wreathed columns at the building’s lobby. Of note is the open porch above the main parapet that would be enclosed for the construction of the 1957 Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough attraction. A doorway to its west side and the chapel’s tracery windows to the east would later be obscured by the hallways of that build-out. The entrance and exit doors for what would become the Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough attraction are present in this illustration, yet there are no gift shops to be found in these castle walls. The current gift shop locations utilized interior space that was to be set aside for the 1955 version of the proposed walkthrough and gift shop doorways are not yet present.
