$768
A set of four different ape appliance sets made for Planet of the Apes (20th Century, 1968). The first marked "J. Wong G-I-New," a gorilla test appliance for Joe Wong, who was a test subject for many makeup and costume tests. Together with an unidentified partial gorilla appliance marked "LP.", an untrimmed background chimpanzee appliance marked "STCK." and an unidentified, possibly background orangutan and marked "A2-FC." These came directly from the collection of makeup artist John Chambers and were gifted to his sister. These unused foam appliances were created for the film but not used, which accounts for their condition. The appliances are displayed, as they were on the set, on vacuformed lifemasks of the actors portraying the characters to help retain their shape. Categories: Planet of the Apes
