A two page handwritten letter from Greta Garbo to boyfriend and actor Gilbert Roland (c. 1943). The letter is composed in pencil on typing paper, reading in part: “Now that you are in the big city, I don’t know if I can treat you as a soldier anymore. But that is a long story. So now I will write you very seldom perhaps. I have had a very upset time. I have been and still am in a little bit of chaos. I hope I will come out of it soon…Everyone thought that war would be over at the end of this year. But as long as no one knows I cannot promise you anything.” Also present is the original transmittal envelope postmarked August 27, 1943. 7 ½ by 10 ½ inches. Categories: Greta Garbo
