$7,200
A 1955 Fender Precision electric bass guitar, Serial Number 14921, sunburst finish, double cutaway solid body, white pickgaurd, one pickup, two rotary controls, together with hardshell case, signed: “JW Brown” in black ink on pickgaurd. This bass was owned and played by J.W. Brown during various live performances with his cousin Jerry Lee Lewis during the 1950s. Shortly after recording “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin On” which quickly sold over one million copies, the 22 year old Lewis married his second cousin; Brown’s young daughter Myra. The following year, 34 of his 37 concert dates in the United Kingdom were cancelled when the British press discovered Lee’s new bride was also his 13 year old cousin. Brown faithfully remained a member of Lewis’s group for several years. Brown’s efforts as Lee’s sideman and father to Myra played an important roll in Lee’s becoming an international household name in rock and roll. Categories:
