A 1929 Gibson proto-type acoustic guitar, Serial Number 87885, Brazilian Rosewood top, back and sides, 19 fret fingerboard with mother of pearl inlays, early Gibson logo inlayed to head, signed and inscribed by Lucas on back of body in ink reading: “To My Friend, Nick Morro, From Your Friend, Nick Lucas,” together with hardshell case. Owned and played by one the best remembered musicians from the 1920s, Nick Lucas. Known as the “Crooning Troubadour” during the late 1920s, Lucas remains among the great singer/songwriters of the Roaring Twenties era. In 1922 he recorded two original songs for Pathe, “Picking the Guitar” and “Teasing the Frets.” In the late 1920s, Gibson Guitar Company, together with Lucas created “The Nick Lucas Special” which featured an extra deep body to project sound during live performances. This early “Nick Lucas Special” prototype is the blueprint for what would become a popular Gibson model. The “Nick Lucas Special” went through several modifications but kept the deep body a celebrated feature. Together with supporting documentation. Categories:
