33 1/3 rpm album “We Gather Together” by Tennessee Ernie Ford and the San Quentin Prison Choir, released July 22, 1963, housed in a shadow box with handcuffs from the prison. This album was the first ever recorded at San Quentin, six years before fellow country singer Johnny Cash would record there. Ford explains in the liner notes that as a child he and his family would visit the jails that surrounded his hometown of Bristol, Tennessee and would sing gospel songs for the prisoners.
