Typed, one page letter dated "29th September 1953", ink painted figure in background and signed across the page "Henry Sloan/Woody Guthr*e", return address is listed as 2708 Topanga Skyline Drive Topanga California PO Box # 673. Woody Guthrie, the trailblazing musician and political activist, was one of the first musicians to move to Topanga Canyon. The last line of the letter reads: "GOTTA STOP DOWN HERE A ND [sic] TRY TO WHACKLE OUT A FEW MORE PAGES TO MY NEW SEEDS OF MAN BOOK" Guthrie was a prolific writer, but he did have difficulty finishing his writing projects. "Seeds of Man" was written in the late 1940s but not published until 1976. Categories:
