In February 1952, a wire service reporter, Ailene Mosby, discovered that the featured beauty was none other than Marilyn Monroe and a scandal broke. Fox Studio executives panicked and called Marilyn in to ask if it was indeed her. Yes, she replied. The Studio asked her to lie, but she said she had no reason to do so. She released a statement to the press stating she was broke and had posed to pay her bills. After the confession her fan mail increased dramatically and her latest movie, Clash by Night, opened to big business.
