Pistons Team Signed Basketball inscribed, “Bob Hope in Appreciation, 2-22-1953 Fort Wayne Zollner Pistons,” 9 signatures including Larry Foust, Frank Brian and Fred Schaus, plus 4 unknown overall very good condition, In 1941 the Zollner Pistons were formed by automobile piston manufacturer Fred Zollner. Playing in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the Pistons were an above average team in the NBL and later in the newly formed NBA. In 1953, they made it to the playoffs, led by All-Star Larry Foust and rookie Dick Groat, who would leave basketball for a career with the Pittsburgh Pirates major league baseball team. Zollner dropped his name from the team and moved the Pistons to Detroit in 1957, where they have enjoyed much success. Categories: Bob Hope
