Untitled (Still life with Roses and Three Vases), oil on canvas, signed and dated lower left, 1889. Relined. This painting hung en suite with the following lot in the living room at Pickfair. Shown in the Pickfair photograph on pages 164-5. Paul de Longpre is known for his botanically correct paintings of flowers, particularly roses. He was born in France but relocated to New York City as a well known artist in 1890. After a very successful exhibit in 1898, he moved to Los Angeles, where he built an extravagant estate with thousands of rose bushes. His house became a major tourist attraction until it was demolished to become part of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In his memory, one of the streets near his property is now called De Longpre Avenue. 38 by 30 inches (sight) Categories: Mary Pickford
