A birthday card to Ana Lower’s nephew Max Ritchie from 15 year old Norma Jeane, signed and inscribed in Norma’s hand at bottom right: “To Max-/Happy Birthday/from-/Norma Jeane. ” Also present is original transmittal envelope, handwritten on recto: “to Max Ritchie/from/Norma Jeane/March 22/41.” The following year Lower was responsible for “giving away the bride” during the wedding ceremony of Norma Jeane and Jim Dougherty. Also present are four black and white reproduction photographs of Norma Jeane as a teenager, most likely in Van Nuys, California (c. 1941); one featuring her with Max Ritchie, Ana Lower’s nephew (c.1941) posed on a street corner before a brick building, one with her and girlfriend and Max’s first wife Roslyn Anderson posed on a street of a residential neighborhood, one of her in a playful hitchhiking pose, standing before a sign reading: “School/Drive Slowly” on a residential street most likely in Van Nuys and one of her standing on a patch of grass on a residential street, each measuring 3 ½ by 5 inches.
