Mixed media on a Les Paul Standard Gibson Electric Guitar. Carved AA maple top, mahogany back and neck with rosewood fingerboard, and BurstBucker Pro pickups. 39 by 13 inches The artist says of this piece: "I got the inspiration for my guitar when I picked up one of my son's guitar picks from his kitchen floor...I picked up a recent 'Guitar Friend' magazine and saw the beautiful traditional cherry sunburst Gibson Les Paul. I had my original idea and design." Marla Ripperda is an 8th generation Texan and Vice-President of the Texas Society of Sculptors (T.S.O.S). Marla studied design and art history at The University of Texas and has participated in numerous art-related continuing education classes. In May 2000 she and her husband, Terry, moved to Lake Buchanan where she set up her studio and began producing art in the Highland Lakes area. In April 2002 she traveled to study Italian Renaissance art in Venice, Florence and Rome, Italy. Teaching and serving on arts boards are two ways Marla feels she can give back to the community a small part of the joy and fulfillment she has found in creating her art.
