Oils on a SG standard Gibson Electric Guitar. Mahogany neck and body, rosewood fingerboard, humbucking neck and bridge pick ups, signed by Kaiser Chiefs 990 mm by 330 mm Mel A. Initially trained at Bromley Art College but decided to pursue a career in marketing while continuing with painting on a semi-professional basis. Mel generally works in oils and has produced commissions to order on a wide range of subjects but specialising in beach scenes and sea-scapes. Mel has also developed a specialist skill in Old Master copies and for a time painted on a regular basis at the Tate Gallery. Of this piece the artist says: "My first thoughts on combining art with music turned to Picasso as his interest in stringed instruments and musicians is demonstrated in his violin and guitar series (1912-1926) and such works as "The Three Musicians". He was also a master of combining vibrant colour with movement. In "Pablo's Party" I have sought to convey a sense of rhythm with an ensemble of guitarists and dancers in the style of Picasso -- I like to think that the Master would have been amused."
