A group of five letters written in 1943 by Dietrich to her husband, Rudolf Sieber, and a third party regarding Sieber's trouble gaining U. S. citizenship and the resulting involvement of the FBI, stemming from rumors of German espionage and possible extortion attempts by Dietrich's secretary and governess to daughter Maria. One letter reads in part, "...God I could go on and on but I feel sick writing it even. Which of these things she said to Maria--I cannot be sure of. I still hope that there is a God who would strike her dead if she did say all that to the child..." Typed and hand annotated letters, all signed by Dietrich, either as "Mutti" or "Marlene." Some in original transmittal envelopes, dating January-April 1943. Four on onion skin paper and one on Beverly Hills Hotel and Bungalows stationery. Written in English and German.
