Inscribed "For Mary Martin/with sincere admiration & best wishes/Gregory D'Alessio/Nov. 1949" Gregory d'Alessio was a cartoonist whose work appeared in many newspapers and magazines, including The New Yorker and Esquire. He first trained and then taught at the Art Students League, where he was vice president from 1937 to 1944.
