A blue wool lap blanket from the John F. Kennedy presidential limousine. Presidential seal embroidered on front, plush lining; snaps affixed were used to secure the blanket to the car panels. When not in use the blanket hung on the car door near the passengers. At their time of use the president would be seen in public in an open vehicle and in all types of weather. This blanket was in the vehicle at the time of John F. Kennedy’s assassination in Dallas while riding in the presidential limousine, the event that triggered changes in presidential vehicle security. The blankets are mentioned in a memo from a person who worked on repairing the damaged car and R.W. Markey, a Ford Company vice president in charge of presidential vehicle support.
