A Sony KCA60 videocassette used by the producers of the Muhammad Ali vs. George Foreman bout to record the original closed-circuit broadcast of the fight. One of Ali’s most legendary fights, “The Rumble In The Jungle” took place in Kinshasa, Zaire, and is remembered as one of the biggest upsets in boxing history. Ali bested the heavily favored Foreman in eight rounds, employing his soon to be known “rope-a-dope” technique for the first time. The fight was billed as the first "around the world satellite telecast" of a sporting event. This tape was given to Ali from producer/promoter Jerry Perenchio. With no way to view the tape, Perenchio gifted to Ali a large screen TV with an industrial Betamax recorder built into it so that Ali could watch himself fight. Ali gave the tape to his friend Tim Shanahan after the footage was transferred to VHS in 1976. Signed “Muhammad Ali ’76” in black pen on the tape label. Also included is a Muhammad Ali signed DVD of the footage and a letter of provenance from Tim Shanahan. A portion of the proceeds of the sale of this lot will be donated to The Muhammad Ali Museum and The Muhammad Ali Parkinsons Foundation. Categories:
