A Sher-Wood Mark Messier game used hockey stick, stamped “Messier 11” on the stick shaft. Signed by members of the 1982–83 Edmonton Oilers. The stick was given as a gift by Messier and the Oilers to Muhammad Ali in Los Angeles on his 41st birthday, January 17, 1983. The Oilers were in Los Angeles for a game against the Los Angeles Kings the following night, on January 18, 1983. Inscribed by Messier in blue marker on the stick blade “To The Greatest Of All Time Happy Birthday 1/17/83.” Signed “Mark Messier #11” on the stick blade in blue marker. Additionally signed by members of the 82–83 Oilers on the stick shaft. Signatures of note include Wayne Gretzky, Jari Kurri, Paul Coffey, Glenn Anderson, Kevin Lowe, Charlie Huddy, Grant Fuhr, Andy Moog, Ken Linseman, and Dave Semenko; 26 signatures total. Stick handle has been taped by Messier, and tape was removed from the stick blade by Messier prior to his signing. Sher-Wood logos have been sanded off one side of the stick to allow for signatures. A portion of the proceeds of the sale of this lot will be donated to The Muhammad Ali Museum and The Muhammad Ali Parkinsons Foundation.
