A Victor Award trophy presented to Michael Jordan in 1998 as NBA Player of the Year. The Victor Awards, established in 1966, are presented yearly for outstanding accomplishment in U.S. professional and amateur athletics. Nominations are decided by a blue-ribbon panel of educators and sports-related persons with three nominations per category each year. Voting for the eventual winners in each category is done by members of the U.S national sports media. Jordan won the award in the professional basketball category in 1998 after winning his sixth NBA Championship with the Chicago Bulls. The award features a marble base with a "gold" engraved band and athlete figure on top. The engraved band reads "Victor Awards XXXII/ MICHAEL JORDAN/ NBA Player of the Year/ Voted by the National Sports Media/ City of Hope/ 1998." The award is signed "Michael Jordan" in silver marker on the base.
