An unfinished turquoise blue gown that was being prepared for Lucille Ball at the time of her death. Basting stitches and pins still evident. Believed to be one of the new wardrobe pieces Lucy was planning on wearing when she returned to her hometown, Jamestown, New York, to receive an honorary doctorate from the Jamestown Community College. Lucy died just weeks before she was to make the trip back western New York. Complete with camisole and underskirt featuring net lining, this dress was originally donated by Lucie Arnaz to the Arts Council for Chautauqua County in Lucille Ball’s hometown. The arts council offered the dress as part of the Lucille Ball Estate Auction that took place on July 20, 1996, to raise money for a hometown museum honoring the Ball. Also present is the catalog from this 1996 auction and certificate of authenticity from the 1996 auction sale. Accompanied by a black and white photograph of Lucy, and a never-published photograph of the inside of a storage closet in which this gown and many more of Lucille Ball’s wardrobe items can be seen.
