A Lucille Ball Christmas card to Pepito Perez and his wife, Joanne from the 1958 holiday season. Pepito not only appeared on the pilot of I Love Lucy , but he was earlier involved in helping Lucy and Desi develop their 1950 vaudeville tour—a tour launched to prove to CBS executives that the American public would accept Lucy and Desi as a husband and wife comedy team. A year later I Love Lucy was born. In red ink, the preprinted card interior reads, “LUCY AND DESI ARNAZ/ LUCIE AND DESI IV.” Accompanied by original transmittal envelope Ball’s handwriting appears in red ink on the envelope front. She addresses the holiday card, “Pepito + Joanne/ 5602 N. Ross/ Santa Ana Calif.” A four-cent Lincoln postage stamp cancelled on December 17, 1958 affixed to envelope. The backside of the envelope flap features Lucy and Desi’s Beverly Hills home address in red ink. A black and white photograph of Lucy and Desi with Pepito and Joanne accompanies this lot.
