Acrylic on Fiberglass. Jon Planas was once asked by an admirer of his artworks, “When was the first time Jon created anything that would be an art piece,” and his answer was rather a peculiar one. He said he never knew what art was; he just wanted to draw the legendary Bugs Bunny and Bambi, which he did at the age of 4, when he became enrolled into a correspondence art school located in the Midwest. Planas was always a serious, quiet kid, says his mom, who had nicknamed him “Viejo” for his meritorious manner in his dress and his advanced intellectual interests to be continued for now this is a beginning! Planas has a particular relationship to the vibrant visual history of the Sunset Strip. He is known for his “Absolut World” billboard which was unveiled at the east gateway of the Sunset Strip. A West Hollywood based artist at this time, Planas continues to create art that is larger than life yet still a celebration to the intimate details of daily living.
