A 24-page program for the 1957 Alan Freed Presents The Big Beat , signed by Buddy Holly and Alan Freed. Holly's signature appears on the inside of the back cover. Holly was dropped from his record label, Decca, in January 1957. By the end of that year Holly had signed to a new record label, topped the billboard charts, and played The Ed Sullivan Show . Alan "Moondog" Freed, who coined the term Rock 'n' Roll, promoted a new form of music and racial integration at a time when few others were. Freed's connections to the payola scandal ended his career but did not keep him from being "The Father of Rock and Roll." 12 by 9 inches PROVENANCE Lot 160, "Music Icons," Julien's Auctions, Planet Hollywood, Las Vegas, June 24, 2010 Categories: Buddy Holly
