A 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympic Games torch signed on the middle handle "Muhammad Ali/ 1996" in blue marker. Ali had the honor of being the last member of the 1996 Olympic Torch Relay, thus lighting the Olympic Flame at the opening ceremonies of the 1996 Summer Olympics at Centennial Olympic Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, on July 19, 1996, marking the official opening of the games. Ali also received a replacement medal for his 1960 gold medal victory in boxing. The torch features 22 aluminum "reeds," one for each Olympic Games up to 1996. Additionally, it features two gold plated brass rings, the first displaying the inscription "Atlanta 1996" with the Atlanta Games emblem and the second featuring the names of the host cities of the Olympic Games of the modern era. The torch was the tallest ever for a summer Olympic Games and the only one designed to be grasped in the middle. The handle is made of Georgia pecan wood. Included with the torch is a print of a color photograph of Ali, originally taken on the night of the opening ceremonies in 1996. It depicts Ali holding the Olympic torch and is signed "Muhammad Ali" in gold paint pen. The torch in this lot has never been lit. Accompanied by a certificate of registration from Online Authentics.
