Carter was convicted of triple homicide in 1967, a judgment that was eventually set aside when Carter was freed in 1985. Dylan, an advocate for Carter’s innocence and for re-trial of his case, wrote the song “Hurricane” (Columbia, 1976) as a protest song and in support of Carter.
