A group of seven vintage gelatin silver prints of rare images of The Beatles in 1964. The photographs were taken on their trip to Copenhagen for their first concert of their World Tour, held June 4 at K.B. Hallen. Ringo Starr remained in London, having been hospitalized for tonsillitis. Jimmie Nicol temporarily took Starr’s place and is pictured in one of the images. Three photographs show The Beatles reading and relaxing on their British European Airlines flight from London to Copenhagen. Two photographs of the crowds meeting the band at the Copenhagen Airport and gathered outside of the Royal Hotel are evidence that these photographs were taken at the height of “Beatlemania.” Another photograph shows George Harrison in his room at the Royal Hotel, and another depicts a press billboard in downtown London, taken prior to the flight, marked in hand “Ringo Ill.” The photographs were taken by a photographer hired by a young reporter for a Swedish magazine who sat with the group on their first-class flight and accompanied them to the hotel for a press conference. The photographs offered here come directly from that reporter. The negatives to these images were destroyed, and these are unique prints. Only one image has ever been published.
