Gesso, plaster gauze, acrylic paint, lacquer, tambourine pieces on Epiphone Les Paul. The idea for the design was to incorporate the musical instruments that are the tools used in music therapy, a field in which individuals with special needs are helped to reach individualized goals and improve their quality of life. Six music therapy clients, all diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders and ranging in age from 8 to 22 years, participated in the painting of our department’s guitar. The clients worked individually or in small groups with Mollie Postotnik, the art therapist, and were assisted by Maria Roberge, our music therapy intern, and Lori Lundeen Smith, the Assistant Director of the Department of Music Therapy. Mollie Kathleen Postotnik is an artist, art therapist and professional counselor. Mollie has worked with children with autism, with HIV/AIDS patients, and currently works with seniors at neighborhood centers in the inner city. She served as an art therapist with The Music Settlement’s Rainbow campers in the summer of 2009. Categories: Les Paul
