Two tickets from The Beatles' historic first appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show," February 9, 1964, together with an original CBS inter-office memo referencing the tickets. There were reportedly over 50,000 ticket requests for a theater only seating just over seven hundred people. The memo between CBS employees Sylvia Goodman and James F. Murphy reads in full, "Your idea is interesting, However, the special tickets for last Sunday's Ed Sullivan Show were destroyed in the usual manner. I'm enclosing a couple that I found on my desk. I realize its not what you hoped for, but they might make an interesting souvenir. JFM." The tickets have faded from their original orange color and have been matted and framed with the memo. The tickets' simple design is unlike those that audience members received through the mail, and appear to be comp tickets that would have been given to V.I.P. attendees. Each of the tickets has been rubber stamped with a number on the back reading "117" and "118" respectively. 16 3/4 by 13 1/2 inches Categories: The Beatles
